Frequently asked questions

Can I send a file directly from this page today?

Not yet. Direct file sharing is still being built, so this page can't send files right now.

How will direct sharing work?

You'll pick a file and share a link or code. When the other person opens it, the file is meant to go straight from your browser to theirs instead of being stored in the cloud.

Will both people need to be online at the same time?

Yes. With a direct transfer, both devices need to have the page open until the file has finished sending.

Will it work if we are on different Wi-Fi networks or mobile data?

The aim is for it to work across different networks, including mobile data. Some office or college networks block direct connections, so it may not work everywhere.

Will there be a file size limit for direct sharing?

That hasn't been decided. A direct transfer doesn't need cloud storage, but very large files will still depend on both devices and the connection.

What kinds of files will I be able to send?

The plan is any type of file, not just PDFs, such as photos, videos and documents.

How can I send a big PDF on WhatsApp meanwhile?

Shrink it with Compress PDF first. On most phones, the result screen also has a Share button for sending it on WhatsApp or Gmail.
