Frequently asked questions
Does the tool highlight the differences automatically?
Yes. Added words are shown in green and removed words in red, grouped by page, with a count of words added and removed at the top.
Can I compare PDFs with different numbers of pages?
Yes. The whole text is compared, so a paragraph that moved to the next page is not shown as a change. If the page counts differ, both are shown at the top.
Which file should I add first?
Add the older version first and the newer version second, so additions show in green. Use Swap order if you picked them the wrong way round.
Are formatting and images compared as well?
No. Only the text is compared. Use the Side by side view to look over both versions page by page for changes in layout or pictures.
Can I compare two scanned PDFs?
Only after OCR. Scans have no text to compare, so run OCR PDF on both files first and compare the searchable PDFs.
Can I compare password-protected PDFs?
No. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, then compare the unlocked copies.
What is the best way to check two versions of a rent agreement or contract?
Add the old and new versions, read through the green and red changes page by page, then use Side by side to check anything the text view cannot show, such as tables or signatures.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is processed inside your browser on your own phone or computer. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for Aadhaar, PAN, bank statements and other private documents.
