Frequently asked questions

Will it still be readable?

Yes. Text stays sharp; only photos and scanned images are made smaller. Check the preview before uploading.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file opens inside your browser and never leaves your phone or computer – there's no upload, no account and nothing for us to store. That's why it's safe for tax forms, ID and bank documents.

Can I compress a PDF to an exact size like 100 KB or 1 MB?

There is no exact-size setting. You choose Light, Recommended or Strong, and on our size pages, such as compress to 200 KB, the result tells you whether it is under the limit. If it is not, try Strong with Black & white.

Which level should I pick: Light, Recommended or Strong?

Recommended suits most files. Light keeps photos closest to the original, while Strong shrinks scans and photos the most, which helps with strict upload limits.

What does the Black & white option do?

It turns the photos and scans inside the PDF into greyscale, which makes scanned documents much smaller. Typed text is not changed.

Will compressing make my scanned marksheet hard to read?

Light and Recommended keep scans clear. Strong scales images down to at most 1200 pixels on the long side, which is still readable for most A4 pages, but check the result before you upload it.

Why did my PDF hardly get any smaller?

Only the images inside a PDF are recompressed, so a file that is mostly typed text is already small and may not shrink. If nothing can be saved, you get your original file back with a note saying so.

Does a 200 KB limit on a government portal mean 200,000 or 204,800 bytes?

Portals differ, so when we check a size limit we count 1 KB as 1000 bytes, the stricter reading. A file we show as under 200 KB will pass either way.

Will compressing affect a digital signature on my PDF?

It can. Compressing rewrites the file, so a digital signature will usually show as invalid afterwards. Compress the document first and sign it last.

Is it free? Do I need to sign up?

It is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
