Tips for your 1099-NEC
- Don't file a Copy A printed from the IRS website – the IRS can't scan it and may charge a penalty. E-file, or order the official red Copy A from the IRS.
- Copies B, 1 and 2 can be filled here and printed or emailed to the contractor.

Frequently asked questions
Can I print the 1099-NEC and mail it to the IRS?
Not Copy A from the website: the IRS asks for its official scannable red form or e-filing. The copies for the contractor and your records can be printed from the filled PDF.
Can I sign the 1099-NEC here?
A 1099-NEC doesn't need a signature.
Is my information uploaded?
No. The file opens inside your browser and never leaves your phone or computer – there's no upload, no account and nothing for us to store. That's why it's safe for tax forms, ID and bank documents.
What is a fillable PDF?
A fillable PDF has boxes built into it for each answer – most official forms like the IRS W-9 and W-4, USCIS I-9 or the ATO TFN declaration do. We show those boxes in blue: tap one and type. Checkboxes and drop-downs work too.
My form has no blue boxes. Can I still fill it?
Yes. Scanned or older forms have no built-in boxes, so tap Text and then tap the line where your answer goes. It's the same as typing on paper, only neater. Many government sites also offer a fillable version of the form – it's worth downloading that one.
Will my answers show up in Adobe Reader and on other computers?
Yes. Your answers are written into the form itself, including the extra copy Adobe Reader uses for some official forms, so they appear in any PDF viewer. Turn on Lock the answers if you want them to become plain text that can't be changed.
Can I sign the form here?
Yes. Tap Sign, draw your signature with your finger or mouse (or use a photo of it), then tap the signature line. Whether an electronic signature is accepted is up to whoever asked for the form – many employers, clients and landlords accept one; some government offices still want ink on paper.
Is it safe to put my Social Security number or tax ID in the form?
It's as safe as filling the form in Adobe Reader on your own computer. The PDF opens inside your browser and your answers are never sent to us or anyone else. When you share the filled form, send it only to the person who asked for it, and consider adding a password with Protect PDF.
Can I fill in a form that is password protected?
Yes. Many official forms (USCIS forms, for example) are locked against editing but open without a password – they work here as they are. If the PDF needs a password to open, type it when asked.
The form says 'Please wait…' or needs Adobe Reader. Will it work?
Some forms are built only for Adobe Reader (XFA forms). If we find no boxes in one of those, use Text to type your answers on the page, or open the form in the free Adobe Reader.
